SUSTAINABLE BIOMASS
Torrified Wood Pellets
There is an eco-friendly replacement for coal. We make it.
Foresta is leading the world with its proprietary processing technology that converts renewable pine forests into an advanced biomass product that can be used wherever coal is burned for heat and energy.
Our wood pellets are made using the whole tree and undergo torrefaction, where they are heated at 250-350 °C with little or no oxygen present. Torrefaction removes moisture and volatile organic compounds, producing a solid, uniform, blackened, water-resistant material with about 30% more energy than standard wood pellets and other raw biomass.
In addition to having comparable energy burn to coal, Foresta Torrifeid Pellets can be easily integrated into existing systems for handling, storing and grinding without significant changes or expensive conversion to equipment.

Advantages of Torrefied Wood Pellets
- Higher energy content can improve boiler unit capacity, productivity and economics.
- Being water-resistant, they are easier and cleaner to transport and store, including outdoor bulk storage.
- It can be ground to smaller particle size
- Sourced from renewal NZ forestry
- Equivalent energy burn compared with coal
- Low CapEx solution to a coal-biomass conversion
- Emission reduction. Comparison with coal by weight, (CO2 -e) 95% reduction
- Foresta torrefied black pellets have a higher Net Calorific value (22-24 GJ/tonne) compared to regular wood pellets (16-17 GJ/tonne)
