My journey began with degrees in Project Management and Science Biology, fostering a passion for both disciplines. At Foresta, I spearhead forest procurement, ensuring a steady supply of biomass for our processing plants. This role allows me to combine my expertise in these fields, contributing to a sustainable future.
What inspired you to work for Foresta?
The legacy I will be able to leave behind is what drives my work at Foresta. Envisioning expansive sustainable forests, a reliable source of renewable energy, and a comprehensive CO2 reduction plan fuels my dedication.
What do you like about living and working in Papamoa?
Papamoa’s allure is undeniable. The laid-back and yet energetic lifestyle, proximity to the beach, refreshing sea breeze, and vibrant community captivate me. It’s a place where work and life seamlessly blend, creating an enriching experience.
What challenges do you see in the biomass energy sector in New Zealand, and how is our company addressing them?
The biomass energy sector faces the challenge of shifting the mindset of landowners and forest owners. Foresta tackles this by sharing sustainable practices, engaging in open dialogues, and actively participating in industry conferences to showcase our innovative solutions.
The challenge of limited value-adding technology being used in forestry, particularly resin enhancement. We address this by developing projects to increase resin content and breed hybrids with enhanced resin yield, through trials we will be able to demonstrate the efficiency of these methods, while we continuously refine our unique natural resin extraction techniques.
What aspect of your role do you find most fulfilling?
Witnessing the positive impact on forest owners through our Resin Enhancement Program and our ability to process 100% of the tree, including stumps, brings immense satisfaction. It’s a testament to Foresta’s commitment to sustainability and maximising forest value.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to work in the biomass energy industry in New Zealand?
